The voting panel for the NBA All-Defensive Teams consists of the NBA’s 30 head coaches, who are asked to select All-Defensive First and Second Teams by position.

Two points are awarded to each player for a First Team vote and one point is awarded for a Second Team vote.Coaches are not permitted to vote for players from their own team.

Michael Jordan and Gary Payton were selected for the First Team 9 times each. Tim Duncan, Kobe Bryant and Kevin Garnett with 8 selections are the active players with a chance to reach the top of this list.
